To celebrate the relaunch of our frozen pastry products DS-gluten free offered Facebook fans a chance to win a different prize every week! We posted a different question every Friday and the answer or post with the most “likes” were crowned our winners the following Thursday.

Our improved pastry products include the gluten and wheat free Chicken & Mushroom Pies,Cornish Style Slices, Sausage Rolls and Shortcrust Pastry. The new products are all available from Sainsbury’s and Asda, with the new Chicken & Mushroom Pies also available in Waitrose. For more information please visit our product pages or the “first for frozen free from” blog!

What new frozen product would you like DS to develop and why?

We had a huge response to our first question! Over 300 of you commented, we had lots of requests for gluten free Morrisons logo
frozen desserts
, puff pastry and party food but the winner with 43 likes was Laurajayne Mcdowall. Laura requested that we make gluten free sugar ring doughnuts and won £100 worth of supermarket shopping vouchers. Laura heard about the competition through the DS-gluten free enewsletter, (you can sign up here if you haven’t already subscribed) “I love the DS range, my favourites are the Sausage Rolls, Crispbread and Yorkshire Puddings. Next on my list to try are the Sweet Breakfast Rolls.”

Laura chose Morrisons' vouchers was diagnosed with coeliac disease following a dramatic weight loss which was her first symptom, she sees her GP ever four weeks to monitor her weight and has found following a gluten free diet has alleviated her symptoms.

What current DS frozen product would you recommend and why?

Well… it was this week we discovered a slight flaw in the terms and conditions and our Facebook fans love of doughnuts! Many fans commented on their love of our gluten free frozen pastry products, pizzas, Tear and Share Garlic Bread and a lot of you just enjoyed a traditional roast with our gluten free Yorkshire Puds. However, with a whopping 73 likes in total Katherine Brown was the winner.

Katherine commented “The gorgeous krispy kreme type donut that you make -gluten free meal for 2 that is my absolute favourite!!! Oh yeah- you've not produced one yet.... Come on DS - please recreate a donut for me to satisfy this need! Xxx”

Bound by the terms and conditions Katherine was rightly the winner with so many likes! Katherine won a gluten free meal for 2 and she chose vouchers for Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant in Claridge’s. Katherine has been following a strict gluten free diet since 2005 and she enjoys the Sausage Rolls and the Chocolate and Orange Crispy Bars (not together of course!)

What recipe using the DS-gluten free Shortcrust Pastry would you like us to develop?

By this point the new product development team had been bombarded with doughnut requests, we were confident no one would think we could make them from pastry but we amended the terms and conditions just in case!

The pieDS-gluten free Shortcrust Pastry can be used in sweet and savoury dishes, people were proposing we develop recipes for gluten free dessert pies, tarts and we had lots of mouth-watering savoury pie requests as well!

The winner was Tom Garcia he suggested we make a gluten free Bakewell Tart recipe, filled with “juicy raspberries and topped with moist almond sponge.”

We thought this sounded delicious and it was our most “liked” answer. Our home economist, Gill, will be developing a recipe so watch this space!
Tom’s prize was a hamper full of gluten free goodies, his partner has followed a strict gluten free for 3-4 years, Tom started a gluten free diet 6 months ago. Their favourite DS-gluten free products are the Ciabatta Rolls spread with homemade jams and jellies!

Why is DS your favourite brand?

Needless to say we enjoyed reading these comments the most! DS-gluten free received over 240 comments from our Hotelfacebook fans, we loved hearing how people liked the variety of foods, quality of bread and a brand “they could trust”. We were also pleased to see a few poems along the way!

Amongst all of the comments the winner with the most “likes” came from Sarah Martin, Sarah commented that “The DS range makes all of those old favourites available to people who can't eat gluten. Yorkshire puddings, pizza, pies and sausage rolls are things I don't have to say no to anymore! They taste great and are widely available – the best brand of GF foods by far!” The grand prize for the final question was a weekend break for two.

If you’d like to read all of the comments from our “like to win?” competition why not become a Facebook fan. DS-gluten free would like to thank everyone who entered the competition and looks forward to giving consumers more opportunities to win gluten free goodies next year using our Facebook, Twitter page, e-newsletter and Discover magazine.

Hi, I do enjoy your newsletter, however, our local supermarkets in North Northumberland, namely Berwick-on-Tweed, Alnwick, etc, don't have a very good range of DS or in fact of any gluten-free products. When I ask for more range, they say there just isn't the demand! Not fair! I am sure your will agree. Best Wishes, Heather (Crohn's Disease)

Very unfair Heather! We really want to increase distribution of DS-gluten free products with retailers to make it more convenient for our consumers, at the moment we'd suggest for you to keep requesting the products and encouraging others in your area following a gluten free diet. We'll pass the infromation you've given onto our sales team.
