Pizza Perfecto! Grab a slice of the gluten free action!
Pizza Perfecto! Grab a slice of the gluten free action!
Posted on the 18/02/2011 by

Staying in on a Saturday night? It’s the perfect opportunity to rent your favourite film, open a bottle of wine and indulge in a DS-gluten free pizza! Earlier this week, Becky from the DS-gluten free Team experimented with the DS Pizza Bases and her favourite pizza toppings (all gluten free of course). Our tasters in the office enjoyed the gluten free pizzas so much that we thought it was only right we share a slice of the action with our consumers! So preheat the oven, get a bottle of Passata out the pantry and prepare to enjoy some delicious gluten free foods as Becky shares her tips for preparing the perfect gluten free pizza...

Oven Roasted Vegetable Pizza

This gluten free pizza involved the most prep and ingredients but it was full of flavour! You'll need;
  • 1 DS-gluten free Pizza Base  gluten free pizza
  • 15ml/ tbsp olive oil
  • ¼ yellow pepper (deseeded and sliced)
  • ½ mushroom (sliced)
  • ¼ courgette
  • 1 tomato (cut into thin wedges)
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 2 tbsp passata sieved tomatoes
  • 50g/2oz Mozzarella (grated)
  • handful of black olives
These measurements are only a rough guide as when making gluten free pizza it’s all about improvising, so if you’re like me and 50g of Mozzarella is simply not enough don’t be afraid to throw on another handful. Start by placing the prepared pepper, mushroom, and courgette into an ovenproof dish with the olive oil and roast in a preheated oven for about 10 minutes. Add the tomato, basil and garlic and roast for a further 5 minutes. Spread the passata directly onto the pizza bases. Cover with the oven roasted vegetables. Top with grated Mozzarella and olives.

Place onto a sheet of greaseproof paper and put directly onto the oven shelf with a baking tray below. Cook for 15 minutes until pizza edge is golden and the cheese is melted.

Ham,Pineapple & Mushrooms

A twist on the classic Hawiiaan style, the mushrooms add a real depth of flavour to this gluten fgluten free ham & pineapple pizzaree pizza.
This popular gluten free pizza was one of our taster’s favourites and disappeared soon after coming out of the oven! Simply spread some of the passata on the gluten free pizza base, scatter with the chopped ham and pineapple and cover with grated Mozzarella and mushrooms. Pop it into the oven for 15 minutes.

Meat Feast

This is a really tasty gluten free pizza, I added some sweetcorn to the meat but you could have it without or add your own favourite vegetable accompaniment!Meat Feast pizza

  • 1 DS-gluten free Pizza Base
  • 50g precooked chicken
  • 2 tbsp passata sieved tomatoes
  • 30g salami
  • 20g ham
  • 50g/2oz Mozzarella (grated)
  • 15g sweetcorn
Precook some chicken breasts with seasoning or you could just buy precooked chicken slices from the supermarket - just make sure they’re gluten free! Use the trusty Passata on the base. Spread salami, chopped ham, the slices of chicken breast onto the gluten free pizza base and top with sweetcorn and Mozzarella. Put it into the oven for 15 minutes or until the meat is slightly crispy and the Mozzarella has melted.

Making the gluten free pizzas was so much fun and required very little baking skill which I think is partially why mine were so successful! I played around with my ingredients so if anyone would like to share their favourite gluten free toppings take our mini survey on the homepage or visit the recipe corner in our forum. Just remember the golden rule that all the ingredients need to be gluten free! Alternatively if you’re not much of a gluten free baker and prefer a readymade slice, look no further than the DS-gluten free Pizzas – choose from thin & crispy Pepperoni and Margherita or the deep pan Mozzarella & Tomato. Enjoy your Saturday night in!
