
Gluten-free recipe competition - the winners announced!

First of all we would like to start off by thanking everyone who entered our gluten-free recipe competition to win a Cath Kidston Teaset. We had lots of marvellous entries from people sending in their signature gluten-free and wheat-free recipes. Somehow, we managed to narrow it down to our five favourite dishes; the Brie and Mushroom Taste Sensation, Banana Muffins, Chocolate and Orange Cake , Orange Syrup Fairy Cakes and a Vegetarian Savoury dish. All of the dishes were gluten-free and wheat-free and all delicious! We thought it would only be right that we tried each and every one of them...

So on the 30th June taste buds tingled, mouths watered and Jayne, our beloved cook, slaved over a hot stove all morning preparing the gluten-free dishes. “I’ve been a cook for years but it’s only since I’ve joined the company that I’ve handled gluten free flours, they certainly go against the norm in cooking but I think if I was diagnosed coeliac I would probably go down the home cooking route to ensure no cross contamination It’s great to see so many people creating their own recipes everyone loves a challenge.” And a challenge it was cramming in as much delicious food as possible!

Our trained tasters (the whole Dietary Specials team) raved about the light and tasty Banana Muffins and the Orange Syrup Fairy Cakes, the rich and flavoursome Brie and Mushroom Taste Sensation and vegetarian dish which we mopped up with our gluten-free and wheat-free Brown Ciabatta Rolls followed by the messy but moreish Chocolate and Orange Cake.

We loved all of them but the favourite had to be the Orange and Syrup Fairy Cakes, with the majority of the votes, congratulations to Vicky Measures from Bedfordshire! Jayne and the team agreed that your dish was the ideal gluten free summer treat with a quick and easy recipe to match. Some of our tasters comments were “ very soft, tasty and sweet” and “mmm lovely, tangy and sweet, lovely for a summer afternoon tea accompaniment ”... The recipe will be published soon on our website!
We’re also delighted to announce our runners up Amy Jones and Sally Harding with .the Brie and Mushroom Taste Sensation and the Chocolate and Orange Cake! Tasters commented “lovely flavours, nice mixture of textures and the perfect starter for a dinner party” and “rich with a great flavour, the tanginess gives it the edge on other chocolate cakes”... Vikki will receive the Cath Kidston teaset, with our two runner ups receiving shopping vouchers for the supermarket of their choice. Everyone who sent us their gluten-free recipes will also receive one of our “Afternoon Tea” dvd’s.Once again a huge thank you to all our customers, if you have coeliac disease, a gluten and wheat allergy or intolerance we have a huge list of lots of different recipes to suit your needs!
