Posted on the 25/08/2011 by
As proud creators of the first ever frozen free from food, DS-gluten free, is pleased to reveal new, tastier recipes! Consumer’s opinions are very important to us, so after reviewing the feedback from our most valued customers, DS-gluten free has revamped the following gluten and wheat free frozen foods…
Chicken and Mushroom Pies, Cornish Style Slices, Sausage Rolls and last but not least Shortcrust Pastry. All of the products are gluten and wheat free and taste tested against their gluten containing equivalents. From September, you can purchase all of the revamped recipes from Sainsbury’s and Asda, you can also purchase the Shortcrust Pastry and Chicken and Mushroom Pies from Waitrose. DS-gluten free is also sampling the new Chicken and Mushroom Pies and Sausage Rolls at upcoming gluten free events, along with sweet and savoury tarts to showcase the improved Shortcrust Pastry. These renovated gluten free recipes are the latest improvements to DS-gluten free’s ever expanding range of foods.
Let's introduce you to the improvements...

Chicken and Mushroom Pie - Now with more chicken and a creamier sauce this gluten free pie is delicious served with boiled potatoes and vegetables, or as a handy meal for one after work!
.jpg)
Cornish Style Slices - With less of a kick than before but a richer flavour, we’ve added more minced beef to remind you of those traditional Cornish Pasties.
.jpg)
Sausage Rolls - Delicious served hot or cold and a favourite at events with children (and big kids too!) Now with flakier pastry our improved Sausage Rolls won’t disappoint.
.jpg)
Shortcrust Pastry - A must have ingredient for everyone’s freezer, our gluten and wheat free Shortcrust Pastry is now more golden brown after baking but can still be used for both sweet and savoury recipes.
For handy hints and tips and a selection of sweet and savoury recipes visit our "baking with gluten free pastry" page.
As always our consumer’s feedback is very important to us! If you’ve tried the new recipes and want to let us know what you think, please leave a comment below or email the DS-gluten free Careline.

I have always enjoyed them especially the sausage rolls (always a good standby), but about two/three months ago they stopped. So please, please can you do something to help.

I love your products . . . and I particularly used to love your frozen lemon meringue pie and your frozen apple pie. They were on available from my local Sainsbury's and were a life saver when, after a busy day in work, I'd be entertaining family and friends. And then they disappeared . . . !I know that free-from products are more readily available now than they used to be, but to my knowledge no other manufacturer has brought out anything that comes close to these nursery favourites.
Do you have any plans to reintroduce these items to your range . . . ?
I have to say a big congratulations to you all for the amazing work you're doing in bringing normality into the lives of so many of us who have grown used to feeling embarrassed and excluded on social occasions where food is on the agenda. That your lines are so widely available is wonderful. You have done so much to raise awareness and make the 'gluten-free diet' socially acceptable.
Thank you so much.
Kindest regards
Anne

Hi there! I've just (last night) enjoyed the newly revamped Chicken & Mushroom pie for the first time. I'm delighted as I could never eat these pies previously because they contained mustard, which I'm allergic to. I was over the moon when I picked up a packet in Sainsbury's and found that they no longer contain mustard so I'm now able to have these too!
I obviously can't compare the pies to the previous version but I can say that I found the pie really tasty. There were lots of good chunks of nice white chicken in there, plenty of mushrooms and a lovely creamy sauce. I thought the pastry was also lovely and light - excellent!
I do remember commenting on your facebook page that I was unable to have the Chicken & Mushroom pies because of the mustard so I've no idea whether it was that comment that prompted you to look at the mustard content... Either way, thanks, and keep up the good work! :-)
Kind regards,
Mary

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of the great feedback!
A few questions we wanted to answer for you:
Marilyn - Unfortunately it is only Sainsburys & Asda taking our pastry products at the moment, although we do strive to get them stocked in all of the major supermarkets, if we have any updates, we'll let you know!
Christine - the DS-gluten free frozen Lasagne is available in Sainsbury's.
Thanks for all the great suggestions for new gluten free foods, we will pass them on to our new product development team!

I found the Cornish Style Slices to be a tad too salty for my palette... have you reduced the salt content in the "new" version. It has put me off trying any of the other pastry type frozen foods you make. I am however very impressed with the pizza's... I think a chicken version would be good (somebody higher up the blog said you did one before...) I don't eat pepperoni pizzas, so I usually add my own toppings to your tomato and mozzarella pizzas! - 15:31:00

Hi Vee the seasoning in the Cornish Style Slices has been reduced. Glad that you like the pizzas and thank you for your suggestion about the chicken pizzas we are always looking for new ideas :) - 16:40:37

Would love to try these, but as I'm milk intolerant too, I can't!! I have read so many times that wheat/gluten and dairy intolerances are so common and often go hand in hand, so I find it amazing that more manufacturers don't take that into account. It's bad enough trying to find things to eat, but even more frustrating to find something that you can half eat!!Please consider this in the future. Thanks :)

Do you do any Veggie pies and pastries?I cannot take red meat in my diet either and always looking for ideas.
Do you do gluten free filo pastry like Jus-roll? I admit as a man cooking is not high on agenda but more choice always acceptable. Finally it would be great if you did a reduced sugar or sugar free cakes as well? How about that for a complex set of problems?

I found all of the DS Gluten Free frozen products wonderful - except for the sausage rolls. Most of my family have a problem with gluten and I keep my freezer stocked with DS frozen foods, however we all agreed independently that the sausage meat, although well seasoned, was otherwise a little lacking in texture and flavour. Sorry about that, but best be honest. I have now started to make my own using the DS frozen pastry - very successfully too. Many thanks for everything! - 08:50:20
