November was the quiet before the Christmas storm. I drafted plenty of shopping lists with the intention that I would do all my shopping well in advance and spend December in a halo of calm. Needless to say this didn’t happen and I’m now facing the usual Christmas shopping scrums. Luckily my local shopping centre – The Trafford Centre – is open until 10pm on weeknights so I can avoid some of the crowds.
I did manage to do some of my festive food shopping in advance. Popped into M&S on the way home from work and spotted a gluten-free Christmas cake so I just had to buy it. They also had some lovely snow globes and I picked one up for the mantelpiece.
After a particularly busy week at work last week, my daughter took me to Wetherspoons for dinner. I’ve never been a big fan of the pub chain but this month they may just have made it onto my Christmas card list. Turns out that all the gluten-free options are marked on the menu. I love it when restaurants do this as it gives me a chance to avoid the usual awkward explanations. They even swapped the naan bread for an extra poppadum when I ordered a curry. Lovely.
