our story

1998

Businessman Chris Hook is frustrated by the lack of choice and
innovation in gluten and wheat free foods for his
wheat intolerant wife and son, so he sets up his
own business, Nutrition Point. He imports gluten free mixes
from the USA and sells them under the Dietary
Specials (DS gluten free) brand.

2000

DS truck
Dietary Specials (DS gluten free) becomes the first brand to offer a
home delivery gluten and wheat free range, the team delivered
the gluten free products in vans then, and it was pretty cold!

2001

Demand grows fast and the gluten free home delivery
business expands rapidly. Nutrition Point is keen for the
gluten and wheat free range to be more widely available to people with Coeliac Disease and Wheat Intolerance and Wheat Allergy so they decide to approach the supermarkets.

2002

Dr Schar
With the business growing significantly, Nutrition Point realise they need a partner who has the expertise
in the gluten free market to offer consumers real choice and
innovation. Dr Schar, who have been providing tasty
gluten free foods for Coeliacs for over 25 years were the
perfect partner. Nutrition Point now felt more equipped to approach the supermarkets and  Sainsbury's were looking to stock some gluten free products...

2003

DS Bread Poster
With Sainsbury's stocking a variety of gluten and wheat
free products, the other supermakets were quick to follow
and all now have a ds gluten free range, offering choice for people suffering with coeliac disease and wheat intolerance.

2005

The Brown Multigrain Loaf is launched into supermarkets
and quickly becomes the nations's favourite gluten and
wheat free bread, featuring in toasters and lunchboxes all
over the country.
Glutafin & TRUufree

2007

Dr Schar learns the the Glutafin and Trufree brands are
for sale in the UK and quickly decides that they will
complement the ds brand perfectly. Nutrition Point now
has a full range of gluten free brands, which cover
both the prescription and retail markets.
 

 

2010 - future

So tasty the whole family enjoys it
DS gluten free is repackaged into a new modern design and as
we continue to develop new tasty gluten free foods, we
look forward to the next ten years of providing great
choice to people with coeliac disease, wheat allergy
and wheat intolerance.
